{Register Your Sewage Treatment PLant|Register Your Wastewater Treatment Plant|Septic Tank Registrastion
We recommend that if not authorized, you register under EPP2 right away by completing a 5 page form on-line by third , link, alternatively UK Septic Tanks will do this for you i am used to completing these forms and can do this for a set fee of . (Take note: although registration for exemption is generally free, if your system may not be granted an exempt status, you will have to get a Permit to Discharge that the EA will cost you. Its also worth considering that the exempt status or even Permit to Discharge can be revoked if the conditions of registration are not maintained proper maintenance/record trying to keep of servicing etc.)
Broadly speaking you will be granted an exemption status under EPP2 but if the system meets the following criteria:
Sewage Treatment Plants discharging close to 5m3 per day and also less into surface mineral water (27 population same in principle)
Septic Tanks / Sewage Treatment Plants discharging close to 2m3 per day or less into groundwater (11 populace equivalent)
Virtually no trade waste
No available link with foul sewer within 30m
EN12566 Credentialed Product
Product maintained and/or purged by suitably qualified person per manufacturer manual.
Watercourse should have dilution ratio of 8: 1 and does not run dry in summer time
No discharge inside 1km of bathing waters, SSSI etc (if discharging to surface oceans)
Even if youve got Consent to Discharge, its looking highly likely that once the EA/Government review is finalized, every septic tank and sewage treatment plant will need to satisfy EPP2. So you might want to consider registering now, although EA is deluged using applications, rather than wait until there's no option - by which time certain requirements might have become even more stringent.
If you are going to purchase a property using a septic tank or sewage treatment plant youd be well advised to make sure that it has either already been registered for EPP2 or that the current owner registers it and gets exempt condition (or gets and will cover a Permit to Discharge) before you decide to exchange contracts or complete the sale.
UK Septic Tanks believes its really important to start thinking now about the potential impact of this looming legislation and make sure that your system is legal and if not, what your options might be.
If you need a few free, impartial advice on this important topic then we'll be pleased to discuss this together with you please call us on 0800 085 0640. Thats what the caller while using the septic tank did and we could actually solve the problem by converting his poorly undertaking (and illegally discharging) septic tank into a sewage treatment plant which often meets the regulations that will safely discharge treated effluent in to a newly constructed soakaway.
